Every year I stay up too late the night before school starts - nerves worries excitement .... I toss and turn all night. And then their faces show up at the door - excited, nervous, teary and holding the hand of an excited or equally teary adult. We all have these feelings together! But it's so hard to imagine where we will be in 9 months so sometimes the first day is overwhelming - so many different personalities and backgrounds in one room. Today by the time we hit closing circle I took a breath (I think I might have been holding it all day!!) and saw the relieved excited smiles and the tired eyes. We made it! We sat together, we practiced only having 1 talker on the rug, we walked in the hall, we even read for 1 whole minute by ourselves! We used math tools, we wrote, we put stickers on the letters in our names... We got used to other people in our space and worked on how to interact with them. We did it all .... It wasn't easy and I'm as tired as they are! But we accomplished a lot in one day! So celebrate the award they came home with and make sure they get sleep tonight! What did they tell you about when you got home? |
Interact! You can make this space your own. Room 55 is an exciting place! Archives |
